Folklore Day to be celebrated on Friday

Kozhikode: Folklore Day will be celebrated jointly by the Kerala Folklore Akademi (KFA) and the Pookkode Kalalayam with academic and folk fervour on the Pookode Kalalayam campus here on August 22. KFA chairman C.J. Kuttappan will inaugurate the celebration at 10 a.m. on Friday.

After the opening ceremony, a folklore seminar and staging of a variety of folk arts such as ‘Thacholikkali,’ ‘Daff Muttu’ and ‘Kannyarkali’ will be held.

The KFA former chairman M.V. Vishnu Namboodiri will inaugurate the seminar. Akademi vice-chairman and Mappilappattu singer V.M. Kutty will preside over. Papers on ‘folk beliefs and rituals,’ ‘folk songs,’ ‘folk theatres,’ and ‘folk journalism’ will be presented during the seminar.

Several veteran folk artistes including Chandu Ashan (Thirayattam), C.G.N (Folklore scholar), Kunhiraman Kolakkadu (Thirayattam, Koppu), T.P.A. Khadar (Oppana) and Pennuttiyamma (Nattippattu) will be honoured during the function.
