World Photography Day celebrated

Several award-winning photographers felicitated on the occasion

Floored: Minister for Endowments J. Ratnakar Rao having a look at the photo exhibition organised on the occasion of World Photography Day at ZP Conference Hall in Karimnagar on Tuesday.

KARIMNAGAR: Zilla Parishad Chairman Arepalli Mohan and Superintendent of Police Y Gangadhar distributed prizes to the winners of World Photography Day competitions conducted by the AP Press Photographers and Cameramen’s Welfare Association, and Information and Public Relations Department in Karimnagar on Tuesday.

The prize winners of photography competitions in news category are: P. Ravi (freelancer) first prize, Uppu Damodar (The Hindu stringer photographer) second prize and M. Chandra Prakash Rao (Eenadu stringer, Medipalli) third prize.

In the government welfare schemes category: Ch. Rajashekhar won first prize, K. Saikrishna second prize, M. Kedar Reddy third prize and G. Anjaneyulu consolation prize.

In the district cultural and tourism category, M. Kedar Reddy won first prize, K. Satish Kumar second prize, B. Anand third prize and R. Narsinga Rao consolation prize.

Earlier, Minister for Endowments J. Ratnakar Rao inaugurated a photo exhibition and inspected all the photographs displayed on the occasion. He also appreciated the award winning photographs.

DPRO D. Srinivas said that they were conducting the World Photography Day Competitions since 2007 to encourage talented photographers of the district.

AP Press Photographers and Cameramen’s Welfare Association district president Bandi Raghu, general secretary Md Shukoor, A.P. Electronic Media Journalists Association district president K. Vijayender Reddy, APUWJ district president T. Karunakar and general secretary K. Venkat Swamy, Press Club president B. Vijaysimha Rao and others were present.

Photo exhibition

Tirupati Staff Reporter adds: Tirupati Amateur Photographers Society celebrated the day by organising an exhibition of off-beat photographs taken by a member T.N. Varaprasad at Mahati auditorium on Tuesday. J.M. Kennedy, Additional Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise, inaugurated the event. The expo will remain open till Thursday.

Kadapa Special Correspondent writes: Photography is an effective medium to portray social evils prevalent in society, Commanding Officer of 30 Andhra NCC Battalion Col. Rajiv Manchanda said.

Speaking on the occasion at the NCC Office here, Col. Manchanda said photography had become an integral part of one’s life. Several youth are displaying their talents in photography leading to revolutionary changes, he said. He felicitated Satish Kumar and Ravi Raju who took part in social service programmes like eradication of factionalism, AIDS and polio control and safeguarding of health.

Photography portrays nature’s beauty, development, crimes and other events in a realistic manner, Col. Athar Singh said. He presented shawls to Satish Kumar and Ravi Raju while Col. Manchanda garlanded them.
