Tirupur makes a record score

Coimbatore: Mohan Kumar (179), Somu (129) and Santhosh Prabhu (104) made merry as Tirupur CC crushed ABT CC by 562 runs in the Canara Bank-CDCA second division league at the PSGIMS&R grounds here recently.

Tirupur posted an all-time record score of 588 for seven in 50 overs and then, thanks to medium pacer Rathinaswamy (five for 6), bundled out the opposition for a paltry 26 in 12 overs.

In the first division league, S. Saravanan (114) came up with a timely century to help RKS Cricket Academy score a 182-run win over Red Diamonds CC.

The scores:

First division: RKS CA 325 for four in 50 overs (S. Saravanan 114, Sathyaraj 58, Venkatesh 56) bt Red Diamonds 143 in 45 overs.

Second division: Tirupur 588 for seven in 50 overs (Somu 129, Mohan Kumar 179, Santhosh Prabhu 104, Ambrish 57) bt ABT 26 in 12 overs (Rathinasamy five for 6).

Suryabala Cricketers 263 in 49.3 overs (Arumugapandi 58, Alagappan 50) bt Wings 213 in 36.3 overs (Ayappan 45, Alex 48).

Fourth division: Cosmo Village SA ‘B’ 190 in 47 overs (Maria Soosai 44) lost to Vivekananda Seva Trust 160 for nine in 42 overs (Rajesh 44). (Rain stopped play, Vivekananda won on wicket quotient).

Coimbatore qualifies

Host Coimbatore beat Perambalur by seven wickets and qualified for the pre-quarterfinals of the TNCA under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the SNR Sons grounds here on Monday.

Having scored two wins, Perambalur, despite the loss, made it to the next stage with ease.

The scores:

Perambalur 122 in 39.5 overs (Bharath Chezian four for 27) lost to Coimbatore 123 for three in 28.3 overs (Dheer Bhimani 45).

Dindigul 163 for eight in 50 overs (Karthik 50 not out, Sivaram Harish four for 26) lost to Virudhunagar 166 for six in 40.2 overs (Stephen 56, Saravanan four for 26).

At Salem:

Salem 156 in 49 overs (K. Goutham Raj 47, Sri Vishnu three for 31) bt Namakkal 110 in 39.4 overs.

Ramnad 40 in 19.4 overs (Wilson four for 28) lost to Kancheepuram 41 for 2 in 7.5 overs.

At Udhagamandalam, Rajesh Nahar was elected President of The Nilgiris District Badminton (Shuttle) Association at its Annual General Body Meeting held at the Lawley Institute on Sunday.

Pradeep scalps five

I.P. Pradeep took five for 29 as Tiruvallur defeated Cuddalore by five wickets in a league encounter of the TNCA under-16 inter-district cricket tournament in Neyveli on Monday.

The scores: At Neyveli: Cuddalore 149 in 44.1 overs (J. Pradeep 79, R. Kugan 32, I. P. Pradeep five for 29) lost to Tiruvallur 153 for five in 41.2 overs (R. Nilesh Subramanian 66, M. Ravichandran three for 13).

Karur 104 for nine in 50 overs (P.S. Nirmal Kumar three for 16, N. Praveen three for 26) lost to Tiruchi 105 for four in 15.1 overs (P.S. Nirmal Kumar 42). Tiruvallur and Tiruchi qualified for the next stage.

At Pudukottai: Pudukottai 63 in 22.4 overs (Sudhanthiramani 30) lost to Vellore 65 for one in 17.4 overs (Gautham 33 n.o.).

Krishnagiri drew with Puducherry (match abandoned due to rain). Vellore and Krishnagiri qualified for the next stage.
