800 Road Inspector posts will be filled in phased manner: Minister

PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 800 posts of Road Inspector in the Highways Department will be filled in a phased manner from this year, State Highways Minister Vellakovil P. Swaminathan said here on Saturday.

Talking to reporters after reviewing works being executed by the department, he said in the past two years, four out of 8 posts of Chief Engineer were filled.

Similarly, 17 posts of Superintending Engineer out 27 posts and 51 vacant posts of Divisional Engineer out of 120 posts were filled after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam came to power. Of the 1,700 posts of Road Inspector, 800 were remaining vacant for long. Steps were being taken to fill them by promoting road mazdoors and also through direct recruitment from the employment exchange. He said works to the tune of Rs.159 crore had been taken up in the district.
