For better service: The mobile police station, which was launched in Anna Nagar by Commissioner of Police R.Sekar on Saturday. — CHENNAI: Commissioner of Police R. Sekar launched a mobile police station in Anna Nagar on Saturday. The vehicle is equipped with gadgets such as computers, fax and global positioning system. The facility has been launched to cater to petitioners, particularly senior citizens, women and others who are unable to reach the jurisdiction police station. Mr. Sekar said the mobile station would function under the direct supervision of a Deputy Commissioner of Police. Like regular police stations, FIR would be registered on complaints and prompt action taken. The mobile police station would be positioned at vantage points and cover the entire Anna Nagar police district between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. “We have plans to extend the facility to the entire city in a phased manner. The mobile police station would soon have a telephone number to enable the public to call in case of any complaint or emergency,” Mr. Sekar said. Instructions were given to take stringent action on complaints of eve-teasing or any other form of harassment against women. “One SI [Sub-Inspector] and 10 constables have been deployed on duty. The mobile police would gather information from the public and keep tabs on anti-social elements. The vehicle will also be used to create awareness of the provisions of free legal aid services,” he said. The first complaint to the mobile police station was received from M. Lalitha Begum (36) of MMDA Colony, who alleged that Suresh of Red Hills had taken an advance of Rs.5,000 from her for the purchase of a piece of land. He neither arranged to finalise the land deal nor returned the advance.
