CHENNAI: A 300-bed cardiac speciality hospital will shortly come up on the Vijaya Hospital premises in Vadapalani. The exclusive hospital will be an improvement on the current 160 bed strong cardiac centre, said hospital general manager D.Ram Babu. The hospital has also applied for recognition by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers. From December, it will bring out a quarterly newsletter to educate patients and doctors to coincide with the birth anniversary of the hospital founder B. Nagi Reddy. Vijaya Hospital set up a cardiac unit in 1996 and since then, it has performed over 10,000 surgeries and done 30,000 angiograms. Under the guidance of D. Janardhan Reddy, cardiologists at the Vijaya Heart Foundation have performed more than 6,000 beating heart surgeries with a success rate of more than 99.5 per cent, said K.N. Reddy, director. At a function on Saturday, the Vijaya Medical and Educational Trust launched a logo for the hospital and the foundation. Cardiac surgeons and cardiologists attached to the hospital paid tributes to their teachers and seniors by honouring them.
