AOC registers a comfortable win over AG (AP)

HYDERABAD: Army Ordnance Corps Centre (AOC) recorded a 6-1 win over Accountant General (AP) in the ‘A’-1 division hockey league championship at the Begumpet Police Stadium, here on Saturday.

The winner led 2-0 at the break. Kiran Prasad put the Armymen ahead in the 20th minute and within three minutes, Manoj also hit the target.

In the second session, Ramaswamy and L. Ramesh struck twice each for the winner, while Samir reduced the margin.

In another match, SAI (STC, Secunderabad) scored a 5-2 win over State Bank of India. Arvind (2), Yavar, Sandeep Raju and Satyamaheshwar struck once each, while for the loser Bheem Singh and Sanjay Kumar scored.

In other matches, Andhra Pradesh Police drubbed Mohammadan Sporting 9-0, while Navbharat Club defeated Nalgonda 4-3.

Book release

“Volleyball, The Power,” a book penned by L. Venkatram Reddy, Secretary, AP Volleyball Association, and edited by late R. Swamy, who was also an international referee, was released by Lagadapati Rajagopal, MP and president of the AP Olympic Association on Saturday at Olympic Bhavan here.

Boxing selections

The Hyderabad District Bodybuilding Association will organise selection trials at the Sree Hanuman Vyayamshala (Sultan Bazaar) on August 19 from 4 p.m.

GHMC kabaddi

GHMC annual open kabaddi tournament featuring 14 teams will commence from August 18 to 21 at the Victory Playground here.

Army Ordinance Corps and the Sports Authority of India (STC-Saroornagar) have been given direct seeding into quarterfinals. M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, MP, will inaugurate the tournament at 5 p.m.

Inter-Collegiate swimming

The Osmania University inter-Collegiate swimming championship for men and women will be held on August 18 from 8 a.m. at the OU Swimming Pool.
