Inconvenience: A flooded road in Sakleshpur town following heavy rain. HASSAN: Torrential rain in the past week has paralysed life in Sakleshpur town, 40 km from Hassan. More than 30 houses have collapsed and 238 electricity poles have fallen, as a result of which 50 villages have been plunged into darkness. Water entered low-lying areas such as Azad Nagar in Sakleshpur town. The district administration moved residents to a safe place. The Holemalleshwara temple has been partially submerged. Houses have collapsed in Sakleshpur town, Hebbasale, Donegal, Kesaganahalli, Biradahalli, Chinnahalli and Bykere. While there is no electricity in Mavinuru, Hongadahalla, Balehalla, Kaginere, Hadlagadde, Alavalli, Kadagarahalli, Hiradanahalli, Mageri, Tamblagere Hosuru, Banalu, Kyanahalli, Edakumeri, Bisle, Kadumane, Useramane, Hodachahalli, Chimmikulu, Kuntenahalli and surrounding villages. LandslipsIn several places, landslips occurred and roads were cut off after trees were uprooted. In Edakumeri, the Bangalore-Mangalore train service was suspended following a landslip. According to Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Corporation Executive Engineer Sathyanarayana, 238 electricity poles have fallen and 11 transformers have been damaged. As a result, the corporation has incurred a loss of Rs. 30 lakh. Over 90 workers in different batches are working round the clock to erect the poles but the rain is obstructing their work. The Hemavathy, Japavathi, Kempuhole, Yettinahalla, Addahole and Kirihole rivers are in spate. Water has entered paddy and ginger fields in Sakleshpur and Bykere. In Halebelur and Mathasagara villages, tanks have breached and villages have been marooned. Heavy rain has also damaged coffee plantations.In the last 24 hours, Sakleshpur taluk received 150-200 mm of rainfall.
