Karnataka’s contribution

BANGALORE: Karnataka has produced a fair number of sportspersons who have donned the national colours at the premier sporting spectacle. Till Abhinav Bindra made history winning the first-ever individual gold medal for the country at Beijing in the 10-metre air rifle shooting event, it was our national game hockey that had brought laurels to the country winning gold medals at the Olympics.

Karnataka’s contribution to the various Indian hockey teams is in players like M.P. Ganesh, Ashish Ballal, A.B Subbaiah, Sabu Varkey, C.S. Poonacha, Arjun Halappa and Manuel Fredericks. Others from the State who have either by origin or domicile played for other States include players like B.K. Subramani, B.P. Govinda and Ignace Tirkey.
