Air Force vehicle blasted

PESHAWAR: A bomb hit a Pakistan Air Force vehicle on the outskirts of Peshawar on Tuesday, killing at least nine people, said the police.

He said it was not yet clear if the casualties were civilians or military personnel. A second police official said nine people were killed and seven or eight wounded in the attack on an Air Force truck travelling into Peshawar, the main city in north-western Pakistan. Dawn News TV reported that the blast left a large crater. Its reporter at the scene said the vehicle had been destroyed and was still burning. It said at least six people had died. Pakistan TV put the death toll at 12.

Air Force spokesman Air Cmdr. Humayun Waqar Zephyr confirmed the attack, but said he had no details.

The bombing follows threats from the Taliban to launch attacks on the government for its military operations in the frontier region bordering Afghanistan. — AP
