TIRUNELVELI: City Commissioner of Police M.N. Manjunatha has appealed to the public not get panicked by the rumours being spread intentionally. After functioning of all schools in and around Palayamkottai was totally disrupted due to the anonymous threatening letter, Mr. Manjunatha convened a meeting in the evening to discuss the matter with teachers and the officials from the Department of Education. Explaining how to deal with any critical situation, the Commissioner of Police told the participants of the meeting that there was no need for panic since all schools, colleges, places of worship, bus-stands, railway stations and other public places within the city had been brought under constant surveillance to thwart the sinister designs of antisocial elements. Moreover, experts of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad equipped with sophisticated gadgets and sniffer dogs were being pressed into service within no time to frisk any suspicious place, said Mr. Manjunatha, who could be seen meeting even at 1.15 a.m. the police personnel deployed across the city. “I appeal to the public, particularly the parents and teachers not to care about the rumours being spread by some people, who will be taken to task,” he said.
