Thirunagar HC wins men’s final

Madurai: Thirunagar Hockey Club, Madurai, won the men’s final of the Southern Districts Police Public Relations hockey tournament defeating Town Hockey Club, Rajapalayam, 5-4 via sudden death at Thai MHSS ground, Vadipatti, near here on Sunday. At the end of regulation time the teams were level 1-1. In the tie-breaker, the teams scored three goals each.

A brace by Rathna helped Lady Doak College, Madurai defeat Fatima College, Madurai 2-1 in the women’s final. Jothimani scored for Fatima College.

The results: Men: THC 5 (Kodi Pandian, Sathiya, Manimaran, Muthukumaran 2) bt Town HS, Rajapalayam, 4 (Dinesh Kumar, Manoj, Saravanan, Muthukumar).

Women: LDC 2 (Rathna) bt Fatima College 1 (Jothimani).

Theni Kammavar in final

Theni Kammavar HSS entered the finals of the Theni District Boost Trophy inter-school cricket tournament at Theni on Sunday.

The scores: semifinals: TKS HSS 124 for nine in 20 overs (Raj Gantham four for six, Deepan three for 10) bt TMHNU HSS 102 in 16.4 overs (Durkesh 33).

Quarterfinals: SPK HSS, Combai, 158 in 20 overs (Manoj 48, Deepankumar 28) bt Gayathin MHSS, Chinamanur, 143 (Kuhain 52).

At Dindigul: First round: Thambithottam HSS, Gandhigram 190 for nine in 30 overs (Rajaganapathy 32, Madhubabu 33, Sadam Hussain four for 32) bt Kannivadi HSS 91 in 19.3 overs (Praveenkumar three for five); Victory MHSS, Chinnalapatti 153 for eight in 30 overs (R. Rajasekar 27) bt Akshya Vidyalaya 84 in 17.5 overs; Govt. HSS, Eriodu 104 in 22.4 overs (Ramesh Pandi 33, P. Vijay Karthik four for 23) lost to Devanger HSS, Chinnalapatti 108 for four in 23.5 overs.

It’s MDT vs VOC

MDT Hindu College, Tirunelveli, and VOC College, Tuticorin, entered the final of the MS University cricket tournament at KR College ground, Kovilpatti on Sunday.

The scores (semifinals): NMMC Marthandam 93 in 23.4 overs (Esakkimuthu four for 26) lost to VOCC Tuticorin 94 for seven in 20 overs; ST Hindu College, Nagercoil 172 for seven in 30 overs (Badin 62) lost to MDT Hindu College, Tirunelveli 173 for eight in 29.3 overs (Murugan 49).
