Pirated movie DVDs, VCDs seized in raid Crime Notes

Rich haul: Illegal DVDs and VCDs that were seized in Bangalore on Sunday.

BANGALORE: The City’s Central Division on Sunday raided several shops on S.P. Road and recovered pirated movie DVDs and VCDs, audio cassettes and gaming videos worth over Rs. 1 crore.

The raids were conducted on shops on S.P. Road, P.R. Lane and other adjoining roads such as Bobson Videos, C.D. Point, Movie Land and C.D. Centre. The police recovered pirated cassettes of movies such as Kuselan, Tulsi, and some music videos. The police have also recovered some porn CDs.

The police have arrested eight persons for alleged violations of the provisions of the Copyright Act. The action was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) G. Ramesh.

Burglary

The house of a grocery shop owner was burgled in Chamarajapet 2nd Main Road on Saturday. The police said Thimmaiah Shetty had gone with his family to a wedding reception in the evening. When they returned, they discovered the house broken into and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 4 lakh missing.

Cash seizure

A team of J.C. Nagar police will leave for Mumbai to verify the records produced concerning the Rs. 9.8 crore recovered from a residence in Benson Town recently. The city police will be looking into whether any part of this money has any links with crime.

The J.C. Nagar police recovered Rs. 9.8 crore from the house of Syed Tamiz Hisham in Benson Town last week. An official of Himalaya Drugs Company claimed that the money was a part of the proceeds of the sale of a property in Mumbai. The Income Tax Department is also investigating alleged evasion of tax.
