NATURE’S FURY: The hoarding which fell on a car on St. John’s Road in Bangalore on Sunday following strong winds.

Bangalore: The wind on Sunday evening was strong enough to bring down a hoarding and tree branches in parts of the city. There were no casualties.

Part of a big hoarding fell on a car which was parked on Haines Road in Coles Park. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike personnel rushed to the spot and removed what remained of the hoarding.

A tree branch snapped, due to the gusty wind, near K.L.E. College in Rajajinagar and fell on a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus. Similarly, a branch snapped and fell on a three-storeyed building on 2nd Main, BEML Layout.

According to the Meteorology Department, the maximum wind speed recorded between 8.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. on Sunday was 56 kmph.

The department official said that winds were blowing in the south-westerly direction.

A. Muthuchami, Director, attributed the winds to the depression over Orissa. The average wind speed for August is around 20 to 25 kmph.

“The increase in wind speeds here is due to the depression over Orissa. Normality will be restored in about two days,” he said.

Dr. Muthuchami said that the winds combined with the cloudy weather had brought the mercury level down.
