Compensation for damaged houses announced

HYDERABAD: With the rain evading the city much to the relief of people and the swollen lakes receding fast, the city limped back to normality on Sunday.

After reviewing the situation, the Hyderabad district administration decided to extend monetary compensation for the damaged houses apart from providing rice and kerosene to all the affected families. District Collector Navin Mittal told reporters that Rs. 6,000 would be given to totally damaged houses and Rs. 5,000 for severely damaged ones apart from providing 20 kg of rice and 5 litres of kerosene to all the affected people.

He said 64 houses were fully damaged and 241 houses partially, while 3,486 houses were inundated. The administration set up 34 relief camps where 6,461 people were given shelter and food. The camps would continue till the situation improves.

He said people whose houses were inundated would also get 20 kg of rice and 5 litres of kerosene. They would be supplied through the fair price ships under the supervision of tahsildars.

Mr. Mittal said Rs. 1 lakh ex gratia was given to the kin of people who died in the rain-related incidents. However, the identity of the person who was electrocuted is yet to be ascertained.

He is a North Indian and living alone. He said those injured were given Rs. 5,000 each. He said the Red Cross Society also sent two truck-loads of material for the needy. He said 254 medical camps were organised and medicines distributed.

Moreover, six mobile clinics with emergency facilities were pressed into service for six zones. Those in need can call on 23221823 for medical help. The GHMC also constituted emergency medical teams.

Holiday for schools

Meanwhile, a holiday has been declared for all the schools in the limits of the GHMC on Monday on account of the heavy rain, a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
