Nitish Kumar Sheohar: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the much-awaited Dubbaghat bridge over the Bagmati river in flood-prone Sheohar district on Saturday. The administrative approval for the 600-metre bridge involving an expenditure of over Rs 20.39 crore was given in September 1992. Later, addressing a gathering Mr. Kumar said the bridge on Sitamarhi-Sheohar National Highway 104 would go a long way in improving road connectivity between Sheohar, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur and Madhubani districts. Reaffirming his government’s commitment to all-round development of the State, Mr. Kumar announced that work on the proposed bridges over Bagmati at Mararghat and Piprarhighat in Sheohar district would commence during the current financial year. While the Mararghat bridge would connect the Sheohar district headquarters with Tariani block in the district, it would also link Sheohar to Belsand in adjoining Sitamarhi district. The Piprarhi Ghat bridge would connect Piprarhi and Purnaihiya in Sheohar as also link Piprarhi to Sitamarhi. Mr. Kumar assured the gathering that though the floods had not assumed alarming proportions in the State so far this year the government was fully geared to meet any eventuality. In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi claimed the NDA Government after assuming power in Bihar in November 2005 had provided jobs to around three lakh people. Road Construction Minister Prem Kumar said the State Bridge Construction Corporation had already constructed 130 bridges under the Mukhyamantri Setu Pariyojana launched by the NDA government and 110 more were proposed to be completed by March next year. -- PTI
