Three players in joint lead

Rajapalayam: Three players — Tejas Ravichandran, D.S. Shashank, both from Chennai and G. Yogesh of Madurai — share the lead with four points each, at the end of the fourth round of the State under-13 chess championship at Rajapalayam on Saturday.

In the girls’ category, J. Saranya and V. Janu from Thiruvallur district also have perfect score of 4/4.

Important results (Fourth round): Boys: R. Ganesh 3 lost to Tejas Ravichandran 4; D.S. Shashaank 4 bt Ja. Gireman 3; Vasantha Ruba Varman 3.5 drew with M. Swaroop 3.5; Eshwanth Dev Kumar 3 lost to G. Yogesh 4; Srikanth Ajay 3.5 bt K. Suresh 2.5; Mugil Jayavel 2.5 lost to S. Kaushik 3.5; Akash Pc. Iyer 3.5 bt TKS. Abishek 2.5.

Girls: Bala Kannamma 3 lost to J. Saranya 4; V. Janu 4 bt C.K. Varsha 3; J. Vaishnavi 3.5 bt P. Michelle Catherina 2.5; Se. Meenupriya 3.5 bt N. Akshaya 2.5; S. Balambika 2 lost to Srija Seshadri 3.5.

Semifinalists spotted

VOC College, Tuticorin, and Nesamani Memorial College, Marthandam, at Kovilpatti, while MDT Hindu College and ST Hindu College, Nagercoil, at Tirunelveli qualified for the semifinals of the MS University cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores: At Kovilpatti: SPK College, Alwarkurichi 80 in 22.4 overs lost to NMM College, Marthandam 81 for five in 17.5 overs; VOCC 188 for eight in 25 overs (Kamaraj 55) bt Kamaraj College, Tuticorin 157 for nine in 25 overs. At Tirunelveli: ST Hindu College 120 for seven in 25 overs bt Sivanthi Aditanar College 105 in 21 overs; Scott Christian College, Nagercoil 106 in 25 overs lost to MDT Hindu College 107 for seven in 23 overs.

Dindigul qualifies

Host Dindigul dismissed Madurai for 142 runs for a vital first innings lead and thus qualified for the quarterfinals of the TNCA inter-district under-22 cricket tournament. It went on to score 167 for five in its second innings, riding on M. Mohammed’s unbeaten 101, on Saturday.

The scores: Dindigul 256 in 83 overs (R. Krishna Mohan 44, M. Mohammed 76, Vignesh three for 26) and 167 for five in 36 overs (M. Mohammed 101 not out) drew with Madurai 142 in 46.4 overs (Ganesh Muruthy 46 not out, S. Ayyanar four for 16).

SSAM in final

SSAM Government HSS, Tiruppulani, and Government HSS, Vannangundu, entered the final of the Ramanathapuram District Boost Trophy inter-school cricket tournament at Ramanathapuram on Saturday.

The scores (semifinals): SSAM GHSS, Tiruppulani 149 for eight in 30 overs (Umer Kasim 62, Manirathnam three for 25) bt National Academy MHSS 51 in 12.3 overs (Sethupathy four for nine).

GHSS, Vannangundu 176 for nine in 30 overs (Vadivel 83, Srivaikundh three for 18) bt Schwartz MHSS 86 in 23.2 overs (Kamaleswaran three for eight).

At Virudhunagar (final): TN PMMN HSS, Dalavaipuram 117 in 34.1 overs (Sivaram Harish four for 38, Jeyaram Krishnan four for 38) lost to KVS MHSS, Virudhunagar 118 for nine in 28.1 overs (Arunchunai Selvan five for 21).
