Nirmal triumphs

KOZHIKODE: E.P. Nirmal, with 7.5 points from nine rounds, won the State ‘A’ chess championship here on Saturday.

O.T. Anil Kumar, P. Sreekumar and P.K Suresh secured places second to fourth with seven points apiece. The top four will represent Kerala in the National ‘B’ championship to be held in Goa next month.

The standings: 1. E.P. Nirmal (7.5/9), 2-4: O.T. Anil Kumar, P. Sreekumar and P.K. Suresh 7, 5-10: M.B. Muralidharan, P.V. Gireesh, K.R. Madhusoodanan, A.K. Jagadeesh, Joy Lazar 6.5, U.C. Mohanan 6.
