Role model: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Sirugamani near Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Sirugamani village near here has been adjudged the ‘Best KVK’ for the year 2006-07, in recognition of its outstanding extension service and popularisation of latest farm technology among agriculturists. A team of scientists from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University visited the Kendra and ascertained its achievements in areas such as System of Rice Intensification technique; seed village concept and exposure of farmers to precision farming methods, according to the Professor and Head of the Kendra, S. P. Ramanathan. The award, which carries a shield, is in recognition of the Kendra’s intensive training programmes imparted to farmers on agricultural technologies; setting up of demonstration plots; periodical and systematic conduct of vocational courses to benefit the unemployed youths of rural areas and capacity-building for extension personnel, he said. The award would be given to the Kendra at a function to be held at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore this month, he added.
