Minister’s best wishes for Indian team

M.R. Praveen Chandran

ALL THE BEST: A mass run organised by the Kerala State Sports Council to wish good luck to the Indian contingent to the Beijing Olympics.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: He may not be there to cheer the Indian contingent at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but Kerala Sports Minster M. Vijayakumar was at the Central Stadium here on Thursday to wish the Indian team good luck.

Taking part in a public function a day after being denied permission to visit Beijing, a visibly tired Minister appeared to be a person in a hurry.

There was no lengthy speech and the trademark smile was missing.

However, the Minister expressed hope that the Indian contingent would do well at the Olympics.

The Minister also said that the quadrennial extravaganza would realise its motto — One World One Dream.

Signature campaign

The Minister inaugurated the signature campaign by signing the “Good Luck” banner and lit the symbolic Olympic torch.

The Minister then took a few laboured steps before handing over the torch to accompanying sportspersons to start the mass run which was organised as part of the function.

Trainees from the sports hostel and students from various schools in the city took part in the mass run.

The ‘Good Luck India’ function was organised jointly by the Kerala State Sports Council and 93.4 Club FM.
