Keerthi Nathan to clash with Ihsan

CHENNAI: Keerthi Nathan beat Akil Kanakaraj in straight sets to enter the final of the India Pistons-KTC-TNTA tennis tournament here on Thursday. He will meet Ihsan Hussain in the final.

In the girls’ singles, Lavanya Saravanan toppled Kanchan Nath to set up a title clash with A. Sharmila.

The results:

Boys’ singles (semifinals): Ihsan Hussain bt T. Vignesh 6-2, 6-4; Keerthi Nathan bt Akil Kanakaraj 6-3, 6-4.

Girls’ singles (semifinals): Lavanya Saravanan bt Kanchan Nath 6-0, 6-1; A. Sharmilla bt R. Binu 6-3, 6-3.

Kokila triumphs

V.S. Kokila (Good Shepherd) defeated Mahima Jain (Chinmaya) 13-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-5 in the girls’ final (VI Std.) of the Shri Krishnadas Purushotham Das Trophy State-level inter-school table tennis tournament at the SDAT-Chandra Academy here on Thursday.

Boys: VIII Std (final): R. Sowmya Narayanan (NPS) Nbt S. Gnaneshwaran (Princess) 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4; XII Std (semifinals): R. Anandhraj (Don Bosco) bt M. Jagadish (Princess) 11-8, 8-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6; M. Kalvivanan (Don Bosco) bt R. Soumya Narayanan (NPS) 11-9, 11-5, 11-8.

Sham pots a win

Sham (M2000) defeated Sakthi (GSS) 57-37, 45-57, 53-50 in the snooker event of the Madras United Club non-medallist tournament here.

Kumar-Ganesan win

C.R. Kumar and S. Ganesan won the weekly pairs bridge event of the T. Nagar Social Club, here on Thursday, with a score of 65 per cent playing North-South.

Prashanth Sriram and Guthi Rajasekar won from the East-West direction with a score of 60 per cent.

The results: North-South: 1. C.R. Kumar & S. Ganesan; 2. Sri Varghese & Sunil Varghese; 3. K. Natarajan & T.M. Thyagrajan.

East-West: 1. Prashanth Sriram & Guthi Rajasekar; 2. Prajwal & Vinoth; 3. R. Ravichandran & A. Mahadevan.

Chess tournament

The Chennai District Chess Association will organise the Chennai district rapid chess tournament in the under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 categories, on August 10, at the Hall of Chess, JN Stadium.

Only players registered with the Chennai District are eligible to participate.
