HYDERBAD: Powered by a stroke-filled century by Tanmay Srivastav (133, 120 balls, 13x4, 7x6), Uttar Pradesh recorded an emphatic, eight-wicket win over Karnataka to enter the semifinals of the Coromandel King all-India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket championship at the Vijayanand Gardens here on Thursday. Chasing a difficult target of 320, U.P. made light of its target. Tanmay set the tempo with some brilliant strokes all round the wicket. With Tahir Abbas (80 not out, 103 balls, 4x4, 2x6) and Mohd. Kaif (80 not out, 96 balls, 12x4, 2x6) coming good, U.P. had little difficulty in romping home. In another match, a whirlwind century by Deepak Sharma (106, 48 balls, 9x4, 9x6) helped Assam score 168 in 20 overs against Madhya Pradesh. It was a lone battle against fine bowling by Rameez Khan (six for 18). But rains played spoil-sport as MP could bat only for a few minutes before play was called off. The other teams which made it to the last four stage were Hyderabad and Hyderabad President’s XI. The fourth team will be decided from Group amongst Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu which will feature in a ‘bowl out’ on Friday at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal). The scores: At Uppal: Hyderabad 367 for nine in 90 overs drew with Vidarbha 171 for seven in 51.1 overs (Alind Naidu 42, Viraj Kadbe 33, S.M. Shoaib three for 32). At Vijayanand Gardens: KSCA 319 for six in 72 overs (Chelvaraj 88, Deepak Chowgale 44 not out, lost to UPCA 321 for two in 62 overs (Tanmay Srivastav 133, Tahir Abbas 80 not out, Mohd. Kaif 80 not out). At RRC: Tamil Nadu 130 for nine in 22 overs (K. P. Anu Karthik 48, Sarabjit Singh Ladda four for 13) vs Punjab. Match drawn. At HMWSSB: Assam 168 in 20 overs (Deepak Sharma 106, Rameez Khan six for 18) drew with MPCA nine for no loss.
