NAGAPATTINAM: Farmers in the Cauvery delta region of Nagapattinam district will be given subsidised farm equipment under the National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP) during the current year, said M. Jayaraman, Collector, here on Thursday. Inaugurating the distribution of power tiller, power thresher, cone weeder, etc., to the farmers, the Collector said that 274 agricultural implements at a total cost of Rs.1.25 crore would be distributed to the farmers with subsidy ranging from 25 to 50 per cent. SRI target exceededThe Collector said that most of the farmers had switched over to the latest system of rice intensification (SRI) method of paddy cultivation in the district and pointed out that the farmers had raised kuruvai paddy crop in 25,125 hectares under SRI method this year against the target of 25,000 hectares out of the normal cultivation area of 35,000 hectares. He said that the standing kuruvai paddy crop was in good condition and the irrigation department was taking steps to provide water for irrigation wherever necessary. He pointed out that the Agriculture department was also keeping adequate stock of fertilizers and paddy seeds to meet the requirement of the farmers.
