TIRUCHI: The district administration has invited applications from eligible minority students for the merit-cum-means scholarship for pursuing technical education offered by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs. Minority students would be offered the scholarship for pursuing graduate and post-graduate programmes in technical/professional courses. They would be eligible to get the full education fee or Rs.20,000, whichever is less, apart from the annual maintenance grant of Rs.10,000 for hostellers and Rs.5,000 for day-scholars. The candidates should have obtained 50 per cent marks in the previous qualifying examination and the annual income of their parents should not be more than Rs.2.5 lakh. Interested candidates should apply in the prescribed forms through the educational institutions, which are required to forward the same and submit a combined report to the Commissioner, Department of Minority Welfare, 807, Anna Salai, Chennai 600002. The applications should be collected from students before August 31 and forwarded to the Department along the reports before September 15. The model application forms and other details of the scheme can be had from the website www.minorityaffairs.gov.in, Collector T.Soundiah said in a press release.
