A search engine for Malayalam music

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam music buffs can now access and play their favourite songs at the click of a mouse.

A Malayalam music search engine launched by Guruji.com makes it easy to access thousands of songs. Guruji Music Search is available for free at www.guruji.com/music and will cater to all Malayalam music lovers searching for music on the Web.

The music index has songs ranging from 1932 till date, says Anurag Dod, CEO and Co-Founder of Guruji.com, in a pressnote. Guruji.com also claims that their content is not limited to recent songs or greatest hits. It encompasses songs marked by the lilting tunes of the ’70s or the effervescent melodies of the ’80s.

Users can search for a song by the song’s lyrics, singers, movie/album, actors and music directors or even a combination of them. The service will reduce the time it takes for a user to search for a song, thereby enhancing the user experience.

While a user has to browse through three to four web pages before playing a single song on any Indian music portal, at Guruji, the song on the listener’s mind is only one search away.

“ God’s own country has a rich and varied cultural heritage and the influence of music on Malayalis is tremendous. We believe this service will appeal to everyone, in India and outside, who are avid lovers of music – be it Mohanlal evergreen tunes and semi-classical hits or Mammootty’s soulful melodies, or the latest hits from Madambi and Parunthu. The Guruji Music search can conjure up a tune to satiate every music lover’s palate,” says Mr. Dod.

Guruji’s latest offering has a comprehensive database of Indian music spanning all genres. It provides interesting details on the song, singer and the movie. In addition, the site furnishes the listings of top songs, singers and albums. Guruji.com was started by two young entrepreneurs Anurag Dod and Gaurav Mishra, both IIT graduates, in October 2006 in Bangalore. It is the first crawler-based search engine developed completely in India, designed to make search simple for Indian users. Apart from Music Search, Guruji.com provides Web search, city search and movie timing search. They also support search in all major Indian languages. The vernacular search on Guruji.com is more user-friendly than the vernacular search products of major search engines. Guruji.com provides a virtual keyboard (powered by Quillpad) to make it easy to search in vernacular languages.
