Women’s Front protest against eviction

KARUR: The Women’s Front on Wednesday organised a demonstration protesting the eviction of people between Chinthalavadi and Veerarakkiam for National Highway expansion works between Tiruchi and Karur. The Front claimed that 714 dwelling units on private and poromboke lands were sought to be demolished and people there were to be evicted.
The Front demanded that those evicted be given a piece of land to live, money to rebuild their houses at the relocated site, etc.
They demanded that only after land and money was given should they be evicted. Governments should consider their problem sympathetically, they urged.
Women’s Front general secretary Christina and others led the demonstration in front of the Collectorate.
Later the protestors submitted a memorandum to the District Collector.
