Petrol pumps to work as usual

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Petroleum dealers will not stick to their plan to cut short the working hours of petrol pumps and keep the pumps closed on Sundays from August 18.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran promised to hold discussions on their demands and problems in the presence of oil companies’ representatives, when their representatives called on him here on Wednesday. They told journalists after the meeting that they would not do anything that would cause inconvenience to the public.

Decision illegal

The Minister told them that their decision was illegal and urged them to change it. They could not take unilateral decisions on working hours.

It would be against the conditions specified in the petroleum dealers licensing orders, he added.
