INTERACTION: T.B. Narayanan, Director, BIS, interacting with students of Holy Cross College in Tiruchi on Wednesday. — TIRUCHI: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will join hands with colleges across the State to conduct consumer awareness programmes and later extend it to the schools, its Director, Chennai, T. B. Narayanan said on Wednesday. Inaugurating the two-day awareness programme on consumerism conducted by the Consumer Club of Holy Cross College, Mr. Narayanan observed that in 1986, Consumer Protection Act and Bureau of Indian Standards Act were passed to protect the interests of consumers. Colleges, he observed, must come forward to organise awareness campaigns for public and students. BIS’s intervention would cut across different levels in improving the consumer clubs’ activities. Offering felicitations, Section Committee Member of BIS Sakunthala Sreenivasan spoke on the importance of ISI mark and urged the students to make sure the products they buy had the mark. College secretary Sr. Jeusin Francis delivered the key-note address.
