Anish moves into quarterfinals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tops seed K.A. Anish warded off a spirited challenge from Vishnu Prasad before winning his third round match 23-21, 21-12 in the TKV memorial State-ranking badminton tournament at the Jimmy George indoor stadium on Wednesday.

Joining him in the quarterfinals were H.S. Pranoy, Thomas Kurien, Joy T. Antony, Bennet Antony, Arjun Prasad and Antony K. Jacob.

In the women’s section, top seed T.C. Thulasi made short work of K.A. Priya 21-14, 21-9 to enter the quarterfinals.

Second seed Daya Elsa Jacob crushed Soumya Ashok 21-10, 21-10 to move into the last-eight stage.

Easy for Kids CC

Cycle Brand Kids CC scored a facile 110-run win over Karamana Recreation Club ‘A’ in the Canara Bank-TDCA ‘A’ division cricket league at the Agriculture College ground here on Wednesday.

The scores: Cycle Brand Kids CC 218 in 41.4 overs (Amjith 51, Rajagopal four for 75, Subramanium four for 70) bt KRC ‘A’ 108 in 20.1 overs (Vinod 41, Santu Jose four for 28, Shajan Salim four for 15).

Champions Trophy basketball postponed

The ninth Champions Trophy Kerala State inter-club basketball championship, scheduled to begin at the Prof. Joseph Mundassery High School Ground, Kandasankadavu in Thrissur, from September 5 to 10, has been postponed as the dates clash with the South Zone event in Karnataka. The event will now be held at the same venue from September 14 to 19.

The South Zone championship will be held in Bellary from Sept. 4 to 8. The 53rd State senior championship for men and women will be held at the Nehru Stadium in Kottayam from Oct. 22 to Nov. 3.

Don Bosco basketball

The 25th Don Bosco all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament will be held at the Don Bosco indoor stadium, Irinjalakuda from August 8 to 11. Fifteen teams in the boys section and six in girls will figure in the league-cum-knockout event.
