Chennai: Inside forward Rasana played a stellar role in piloting Madurai District Hockey Club to a 5-2 victory over Vivekananda College of Arts and Science, Tiruchengode, in the final of the Winning XI Women’s HC State-level tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Wednesday. Rasana struck thrice and Pavithra twice. The team got a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 donated by Mr. S.R. Bhasgeran of Reserve Bank of India. The runner-up, Vivekananda College received Rs. 10,000 from the same donor. Though the margin gives a misleading impression of a one-sided contest, it was actually an intense tussle for supremacy till the last 10 minutes when Vivekananda struck the second goal through Sophie, to trail 2-3. Saranya had scored the first goal for the loser. But the Madurai team displayed the resilience not only to hold on to the lead but managed to enlarge it to five. Ms. S.K. Gariyali, IAS, Principal Secretary (Retd) to Governor of Tamil Nadu, gave away the prizes. The results: Final: Madurai District HC 5 (Rasana 3, Pavithra 2) beat Vivekananda College of Arts and Science, Tiruchengode, 2 (Saranya, Sophie). 3-4 places: Punitha Arogya HC, Keeranur, 6 (Nitya, Maria Anburani, Santhanavalli 2, Ramya 2) beat Nazarath Club 1 (Lavanya). — Special Correspondent
