The Power Ministry had, on Monday, cleared three UMPPs of 4,000 MW each to be located at Cheyyur (T.N.), Munge (Maharashtra) and Bedabahal (Orissa). Under the pre-feasibility report, IIT-Roorkee would make sure the availability of coal, water linkage, environmental impact assessment and possibility of notification under Sec. 4 of Land Acquisition Act, 1894. The Central Electricity Authority and Power Finance Corporation have already visited the site and given their approval and are now awaiting the nod from the State governments to confirm the final availability of the identified sites. The State governments have already given their approval to the sites mentioned by them and the consultants had been appointed to identify site contours for making application for land acquisition. This would be followed by State governments taking necessary action for acquisition and transfer after application of special purpose vehicle. According to the Minister of State for Power, Jairam Ramesh, the SPVs for the UMPPs have already been formed. These UMPPs would come under the bidding process by early next fiscal.
