35 houses destroyed in fire

Mannargudi: Thirty-five houses were destroyed in a fire at Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district on Wednesday. A temple car and an elephant shed were also partly damaged.

The fire was noticed in a house on West Main Street. It soon spread to nearby houses. Four fire tenders battled for nearly six hours to bring the fire under control. U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, M. Chandrasekaran, Tiruvarur District Collector, A.K.S.Vijayan, Nagapattinam MP, and Amrit Kumar Singh, Superintendent of police, visited the spot. — Special Correspondent
