Tributes paid to police personnel

TIRUPATTUR: Naxalite activities has been brought under control in Tamil Nadu, thanks to the strict vigil maintained by the police, W.I. Dawaram, former DGP, said here on Wednesday.
Paying floral tributes to the policemen killed in a bomb attack that rocked Tirupattur on August 6, 1980, Mr. Dawaram said naxal activities had affected Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
A total of 688 policemen were killed by naxalites in the country in 2007-08, he said.
Vellore Superintendent of Police N. Arivuselvam, Tirupattur Sub Division Sub Collector Ashish Kumar, Tripattur MP D. Venugopal, Natrampalli MLA N.K.R. Suriya Kumar, and Tirupattur Sub Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoharan spoke.
