‘Vascular disease, a major health threat’

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: To mark National Vascular Disease Awareness Day on August 6, the Vascular Society of India is observing an awareness week here from Monday. Aimed at creating awareness about the disease, the week-long programme will include free screening camps and exhibitions for patients in various hospitals and training for medicos.

Addressing presspersons here, surgeons Sanjay Desai and Suresh said the awareness week was part of a nationwide vascular disease awareness programme being observed simultaneously in Delhi, Dehra Dun, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Pointing out that vascular disease is more dangerous than heart attack, Dr. Sanjay said though treatment is available for different forms of the disease, people are ignorant about it.

Free vascular camps will be held in the following hospitals on August 5 and August 6: Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Vasanthnagar; M.S. Ramaiah Hospital, New BEL Road; Manipal Hospital, old Airport Road; Jupiter Hospital, Malleswaram.

On August 7 and August 8 the camps will be held at St John’s Hospital, Koramangala; Wockhardt Hospital, Bannerghatta Road; Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences on K.R. Road and Bannerghatta Road; Columbia Asia, Yeshwanthpur, and Baptist Hospital, Hebbal.

On August 9, the camps will be held at Columbia Asia, Yeshwanthpur, and BGS Global Hospital, Mysore Road.

Information on prevention and treatment of the disease can be had on the Society’s national helpline number Ph: 09810369595.
