Sidharth and Priya win titles

Chennai: Sidharth Jain and A. Priya won the men’s and women’s singles titles in the Chennai District Badminton championships on Sunday.

The results: Finals: Men: Sidharth Jain bt K. Muralidharan 21-9, 21-10; Doubles: Sidarth & Aditya Elango bt V.N. Sathyanarayanan Rao & M.R. Manikandan 21-17, 21-18.

Velammal wins again

Velammal Matriculation won the 11th Turbo Drive-Kamalam John Samuel Ever Rolling Trophy, for the sixth time in succession, at the TI Cycles inter-school chess tournament at Ebenezer School here this past weekend.

The results (category and special prize winners): Boys: U-8: R. Hari Krishnan (Sethu Bhaskara, Pudur); V.R. Arvind Chidambaran (Dolphin); U-12: G. Akash (Jawahar Vidyalaya); U-14: D.S. Shashank (Jawahar Vidyalaya); U-18: R.A. Pradeep Kumar (Velammal).

Girls: U-8: M.A. Latheckasai (Vidya Mandir); U-10: M. Mahalakshmi (Velammal); U-12: Balakannamma (St. Anne’s MHSS); U-14: J. Saranya (Velammal); U-18: S. Aarthy (SRDK Vivekananda).

K. Bharath Shankar’s all-round show was the highlight of St. Bede’s ‘A’s three-wicket win over Santhome ‘A’ in the semifinals of the TNCA-Boost under-16 tournament for the C. Ramaswamy Trophy on Monday.

The scores: Santhome ‘A’ 158 in 48 overs (V. Ganga Sridhar Raju 28, R. Ricky Jones 25 n.o., K. Bharath Shankar five for 31) lost to St. Bede’s ‘A’ 159 for seven in 47.5 overs (R. Ananth 44, K. Bharath Shankar 33).

Easy for St. John’s

St. John’s scripted an eight-wicket victory over Modern ‘A’ in the SMCA under-14 schools tournament here.

The scores: Chinmaya Vidyalaya 110 for four in 20 overs (S. Vinay 28, Namey Kedia 36, Dharsan 25) bt Doveton Corrie 104 for six in 20 overs (Syed Zed 31).

Sri Sankara 63 in 18.2 overs (S.T. Natarajan three for three) lost to Maharishi Vidya Mandir 64 for two in 14.2 overs (R. Kavin 30 n.o.).

Modern ‘A’ 126 for four in 25 overs (K.V.S.V. Uday Teja 33, K.B. Dixit 37, P. Krishnan 29) lost to St. John’s 128 for two in 19 overs (Geeth Puri 63 n.o., Viswanath 38).

Modern ‘B’ 56 in 18.2 overs (Jasan Jacob three for 16, Rameez Raja four for seven) lost to St. Patrick’s 57 for no loss in 7.2 overs (G.V. Vignesh 28 n.o.).

Vignesh hogs limelight

V. Vignesh scored an unbeaten 60 and picked up three wickets as Little Hearts ‘A’ beat Adhi Chetty MCA by 71 runs in the Little Hearts under-12 cricket league.

The scores: Little Hearts ‘A’ 155 for three in 30 overs (K. Vigneshwar 44, V. Vignesh 60 n.o.) bt Adhi Chetty MCA 84 for nine in 30 overs (Thusanth three for 21, V. Vignesh three for 12); Little Hearts ‘C’ 54 for nine in 30 overs (Arpit Chowdry three for four) lost to J.S. Rao CA 55 for no loss in 8.5 overs (Dhruv Davey 31 n.o.).
