Cash awards given

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Minister, M.S. Gill, on Monday gave away special cash awards to 42 sportspersons and coaches for commendable performances in international meets in 2006.

Among the awardees, 31 were from boxing, 10 from chess and one from swimming.

Aaron D’Souza got Rs. 13.5 lakh for winning three gold and three bronze medals at the fourth Asian age-group aquatic championships in Bangkok. — Sports Reporter
