PERAMBALUR: Preliminary works of the Jayamkondam Lignite Power Project (JLPP) in Ariyalur district will commence by January 2009, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology A. Raja said here on Monday. Addressing mediapersons at the conclusion of a District Monitoring and Vigilance Committee meeting, Mr. Raja said 8,000 acres had been acquired. The State government was prepared to pay the land owners compensation fixed by the special courts without further appeal. Jobs would be ensured for qualified legal heirs. Since the post of chairman-cum-managing director of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation was vacant, there had been some delay in the execution of the JLPP. An exclusive meeting would be held with officials of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation next month. Mr. Raja and State Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami would participate. Mr. Raja said an all-party campaign would be launched in and around Jayamkondam to sensitise people to the advantages of the project and dispel ‘false propaganda’ by some political parties against its implementation. On the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), he said 2,700 acres had been acquired. Central clearance would be obtained and preliminary works would commence by September or October this year. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board would implement a massive drinking water supply scheme in the SEZ with an outlay of Rs.9 crore. AchievementOn implementation of various schemes in Perambalur and Ariyalur districts, the Minister said the districts had registered cent per cent achievement by executing all the schemes, involving an outlay of Rs.33.96 crore, sanctioned during 2007-08. Plea to officialsHe appealed to the officials to dispose of the petitions received from the economically weaker sections seeking governmental assistance without delay. District Collectors of Perambalur and Ariyalur Anil Meshram and R. Sudalaikannan; MLAs D. Amaramoorthy, M. Rajkumar and C. Sivashankar; and district panchayat president Kodiyarasi Duraisamy took part in the meeting. The Minister gave away house-site pattas and other assistances to the tune of Rs.28.26 lakh to 459 beneficiaries of both districts.
