Hoogenband to focus on 100m

AMSTERDAM: Dutch media reported on Sunday that Pieter van den Hoogenband would not compete in the 200m freestyle at the Beijing Olympics in order to focus solely on the 100m race.

Van den Hoogenband, 30, won gold in the 100 and 200m races at the Sydney Olympics, and gold and silver in the same events in Athens. He said that the programme in Beijing, with the 100m final race held several hours after the 200m race, was too taxing for him to compete in both. — AP
