DV panel makes a clean sweep in VDCA polls

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: The panel headed by former president of Andhra Cricket Association D.V. Subba Rao made clean sweep of all the posts of office-bearers of the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) in the elections held here on Sunday.

It is significant that this panel defeated the panel consisting of two MLAs, U.V. Ramanamurthy Raju (Kannababu), who contested for the post of president, and Gandi Babji, who sought secretary post, and others with handsome margins for all the posts. The elections to all posts of VDCA, held for the first time since its inception 46 years ago, generated a lot of interest and a large number of Congress leaders and workers were present at the ACA-VDCA Stadium as the general body meeting of VDCA and election of office-bearers were held. The police were also present but the whole process went on without any hitch. Ultimately, the sportspersons prevailed over the politicians, said some.

The MLAs’ panel made a lot of efforts and some top officials were forced to attend the meeting and later cast their votes. Two organisations, Visakhapatnam Port Sports Council and the East Coast Railway Sports Association did not participate in the voting.

Mr. Subba Rao, who has been co-opted as president of VDCA a few months ago, founder-member and senior vice-president P.R. Narayanaswami, secretary K. Parthasaradhi, treasurer S.S.R.K. Prasad, joint secretaries G.J.J. Raju, A.P. Naidu and J.K.M. Raju have been re-elected. Also re-elected were vice-presidents D.V.S.S. Somayajulu, D.S. Varma and P. Vishnukumar Raju. But after the intensely fought elections, both groups displayed unity. Mr. Subba Rao and Mr. Kannababu addressed a press conference jointly.
