The rock band is from Kolkata ‘Such events will be a regular feature at the hotel’
GET rocking: Crowd enjoying the songs dished out by the Saturday Night Blues rock band from Kolkata at The Park in Visakhapatnam on Saturday night. VISAKHAPATNAM: The last Saturday night at The Park was a tad different from the conventional disco themes, weekend parties and DJ remixes. The crowd had a taste of the pure western rock and blues. The lawns at the hotel were set afire by the popular rock band from Kolkata, The Saturday Night Blues. Boom-Bass-StickIt was a heady mix of 30,000 wattage of hard rock and blues, synchronic display of laser lights under the night sky; and all by the beating surf of the Bay. The night was termed as ‘Boom-Bass-Stick’ and as it progressed the crowd swelled and the tempo picked up. The five-member band led by Jayanta Dasgupta, belted out some of the greatest hits of Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, CCR, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Dire Straits. Jayanta Dasgupta, a veteran in the blues scene for over 25 years, is a guitar graduate from the Guitar Institute of Technology, Musician’s Institute, Hollywood. Both young and old alike were seen shaking their legs to the hits of the 70s and the 80s. Requests from the crowd for hits from artistes like Clapton, Beatles and Rolling Stone streamed at regular intervals. The Director (operations) of the hotel, Siraj Mukherjee, said that such events and themes would be a regular feature and a couple of events have been lined-up for this month. The hotel has recently organised events like the Underwater House, Steam, RDX nite and Dum Maro Dum.
