New age wisdom: A visitor gets counselling on diet at ‘Health & Wealth Expo 2008’ in Coimbatore.

COIMBATORE: The ‘Health and Wealth Expo’ held at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam had every thing one needs to know about health and fitness.

Apart from major hospitals in the city, the fair also had stalls selling diagnostic equipment, dietary supplements, and health insurance etc. Specialised treatment for infertility and other specific illnesses was also offered at the fair. It dealt with not just allopathic medicines but, Homeopathy, Siddha and Ayurvedic medicines too.

Most of the stalls offered free blood profile and blood pressure check up and even checked height, weight and body mass index. The volunteers also suggested suitable dietary patterns for visitors.

"The visitors to the expo had an opportunity to know about the facilities and benefits available in the hospitals and take a look at modern medical equipments too," said Ravikumar, Managing Director of Colour Code Advertising Events and Trade Fairs, the organisers of the expo.

A stall set up by Holistic Studio, Mumbai, which talks about the concept of auras was an attraction.

One could get one’s aura scanned and learn more about one’s personality and the kind of energy one exudes through the colour represented by the aura. It is a growing practice in India and is backed by scientific explanation, explained Leo Velloz, the founder of Holistic Studio. "The awareness on auras is increasing and people use it as a tool to understand more about themselves," he said. Consultancies offering services on body fitness, health insurance and savings had also put up their stalls at the expo. The fair had close to 80 stalls.

In addition, awareness camps on children’s welfare and diabetes were part of the expo.

Some of the companies and hospitals also offered discounts. Cultural programmes, competitions, cookery contests and healthy baby contest were also conducted.

The fair ended on August 3.
