BANGALORE: Doping and its ill-effects on cricketers was dealt with in an exhaustive seminar, that was held as part of the ongoing camp for the Indian Cricket League players at the Jain International Residential School (JIRS) campus in the city’s outskirts here on Saturday. “We need to educate the youngsters about the menace of doping,” said Kiran More, ICL’s executive board member, in a press conference. More mentioned that Dr. Bharatinder Singh, a sports medicine expert, will guide the anti-doping seminar. “A popular perception here is that ayurvedic, homeopathic and traditional medicines are safe. But there will be a small amount of poison in them too but sportspersons might take them with good intention. But WADA will not consider the intentions, only the negative impact. We also need to make them aware of the therapeutic usage exemption (TUE), a legal method to use medicines containing banned substances in case of an emergency,” Bharatinder said. Random testsThe ICL’s high performance director Jock Campbell said that dope tests would be random and they would also have ‘out of competition’ and ‘during competition’ tests. “It is important to update our boys on the pharmaceutical products that may expose them to banned substances,” said Campbell. The players underwent random anti-doping tests conducted by SRL Ranbaxy company. Besides Campbell, the camp that features 68 players is also being mentored by throwing coach Mathew James Buckley and sprint coach Zane Allan Campbell.
