It is managed by the students of Christ University

Bangalore: It is loud and clear and managed by students. Christ University on Friday launched an Internet radio station, Decibel, which is probably the first college radio station in Bangalore.

With the concept of a campus internet radio station being fresh in the State — the conception, planning and production is being completely taken care by students of the M.S. Communication Department, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art studio. Decibel will be accessible 24 hours a day with programmes being updated on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The programmes will be on the happenings in and around the university.

The radio station was inaugurated by Geoffrey Thomas, National Programming Director of Radio Indigo.

He said the effort of the students, which included scripting of programmes, recording and editing, was commendable. “One needs passion to entertain through radio. The medium is a lot of fun, but it also has certain responsibilities. The satisfaction that you get after someone appreciates the effort you have put in is something that cannot be quantified,” he added.

Mr. Thomas cautioned students that sustaining the radio channel would be a challenge. “If you work at it with determination and dedication, you will enjoy it and working will be fun,” he told students.

Rakshita Balan, programme director of Decibel, said that the students had come up with 19 shows that had been divided into daily, weekly and monthly segments.

Thomas C. Mathew, Vice-Chancellor; John Joseph Kennedy, Head of Department of Media Studies; Biju K.C., Coordinator, Department of Media Studies; and Shaila Gaur, faculty, Department of Media Studies, spoke.
