TIRUCHI: The Arasu Cable Television Corporation (ACTC) is getting ready to expand operations to other parts of the State. “Installation of equipment for digital control rooms in Coimbatore and Tirunelveli are under way and they will become operational before the end of August,” chief project consultant S. Ramaswamy said. Vellore would follow soon after. The corporation was also evaluating bids received for supply of equipment for its Chennai operations. “So far we have provided links to more than 250 cable operators in Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts from the Thanjavur control room,” Mr. Ramaswamy told The Hindu here on Friday. The districts were estimated to have more than 800 cable operators. The corporation’s Chairman and Managing Director Brijeshwar Singh and Mr. Ramasamy inspected the operations of some of the cable operators in the city and expressed satisfaction over the “crystal clear” quality of the signals received. The city has been linked with the Thanjavur control room through the RailTel’s optic fibre cable network. Nearly 75 cable operators in the city had started receiving the feed from the corporation till Friday evening.
About 325 operators in Tiruchi district have registered with the corporation. Technical teams are working to establish nodes and provide cable links to the operators. The entire city will be covered within the next few days, officials said. Linking the rural parts of the district would take some more time. Some of the cable operators, who had switched over, said they were flooded with enquiries about the absence of pay channels of the Sun and Star groups. The ACTC officials assured the operators that they would start getting the channels soon. Mr. Ramaswamy said the corporation had applied for the pay channels, including those of Sun and Star groups. It was looking to link Ariyalur and Perambalur, to be covered from Thanjavur, through RailTel or BSNL’s optic fibre network.
