Autorickshaw driver commits suicide at home

TAMBARAM: A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver committed suicide at his house in Pallavaram on Thursday night.
Police said Ayyappan and his wife Muthulakshmi quarrelled frequently and as a result, she went to a relative’s house in Kovilambakkam.
He tried to persuade her to come along with him back home.
But Muthulakshmi refused and lodged a complaint with the St. Thomas Mount All Women Police Station.
Women constables came to Ayyappan’s house on Thursday morning and as they could not meet him, left behind a message with neighbours asking Ayyappan to come to the police station. Ayyappan returned in the evening and later in the night, was found hanging from the ceiling.
The Pallavaram police are investigating.
Bomb scare
A bomb scare rumour caused panic among residents of Tiruvanchery near Tambaram and parents of students at the Panchayat Union Middle School there on Friday.
Police said a section of parents had come to the school around 1 p.m. to take their children back home. The school was closed a couple of hours ahead in view of the solar eclipse. The Selaiyur police said that noticing children being taken by their parents earlier than usual, a person called up the police station that there was a bomb scare in the school.
Leaving nothing to chance, policemen conducted a thorough search of the premises and informed residents that the bomb scare was only a rumour.
