Court wants subscription agreement executed within three days Within 24 hours of signing of pact, supply of signals shall be activated New Delhi: Sun Network and Royal Cable Vision, owned by M.K. Azhagiri, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, on Thursday settled their dispute before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal on sharing of Sun TV signals with the subscribers of RCV. A Bench of Justice Arun Kumar, Chairperson, and Members, J.S. Sarma and G.D. Gaiha, in a brief order on an application filed by RCV said: “It appears that this matter can be settled. Counsel for respondent [Channel Plus] has brought to our notice that petitioner [RCV] had initially suggested a subscriber base of 30,000. Now the petitioner has come to a figure of 1.25 lakh.” The Bench said: “Counsel submits that an agreement can be reached at a figure of 1.60 lakh subscribers for the entire city of Madurai. In view of this statement made on behalf of the respondent, counsel for the petitioner, on instructions, submits that the petitioner is willing to accept a subscriber base of 1.60 lakh with respect to city of Madurai for four channels (Sun TV, KTV, Sun Music and Sun News).” The Bench, disposing of the petition, pointed out that the main dispute between the parties was over the subscriber base. “The same having been settled, parties can now execute the subscription agreement”, it said and asked them to do so within three days. It said “within 24 hours of the signing of the agreement, supply of signals to the petitioner shall be activated,” and recorded an assurance from counsel for the petitioner that “so far as the petitioner is concerned there will be no piracy of signals on its part.”
