the TOPPERS: Vice-Chancellor of TANUVAS P. Thangaraju, with rank holders who were given admission letters for the Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry courses for 2008-09 in Chennai on Thursday. CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Vice-Chancellor P. Thangaraju handed over admission letters to the first five rank holders in the merit list for the Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry degree course for academic year 2008-09. T.D. Keerthirajan (Arakkonam), S. Malarmannan (Rasipuram), S. Rajakumar (Ingur-Erode), P. Annal Selva Malar (Tirunelveli) and S. Umamaheswari (Anthiyur-Erode) received the letters at the one-day counselling session held here on Thursday. Mr. Thangaraju said apart from the Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry course, the B.Tech programme in Food Processing Technology (FPT) had received good response. TANUVAS, the Vice-Chancellor said, had signed a memoranda of understanding with Michigan State University, Virginia Technology institution and Nebraska University to help provide Indian students the much needed exposure. R. Prabhakaran, chairman of the Admission Committee (Undergraduate), said based on a merit list, 500 candidates, who had applied for the B.V.Sc and Animal Husbandry degree courses, were called for counselling, of which 283 attended. A total of 166 candidates under the general pool and 11 under the vocational stream had been selected for admission to B.V.Sc., and AH Degree courses for the seats available in the Madras Veterinary College and Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal. Lalitha John, Principal of Madras Veterinary College, said a special education cell had been set up for parents to establish contact with their wards studying in the Veterinary College.
