Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have detained K. Haneefa (35) of Kuniamuthur under Goondas Act for a period of one year. According to a city police press release, special teams of the Crime Wing led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj arrested Haneefa on July 3 on charges of waylaying and robbing M. Mohan of Telungupalayam Pudur of his cash and wrist watch at Selvapuram. He had unleashed terror by intimidating people at knife point. Inquiries revealed that Haneefa was already involved in 20 cases of theft and house breaking. With the accused having taken to crime as his career, the decision has come to detain him, officials said. Detention orders were served on him at the Coimbatore Central Prison where he was lodged in judicial custody.
