Emergency load relief causes extra power cuts
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Residential and commercial establishments across the city and suburbs had to suffer additional power cuts to the tune of 45 minutes to one hour each on Wednesday due to emergency load relief imposed by the authorities. The ordeal became all the more difficult to endure owing to the timings chosen by the officials for the implementation. The power cuts began at 6.45 p.m. and continued phase-wise across different parts of the city till 9.30 p.m.
According to officials, shutdown of four units in KTPS, some due to technical snags and some others due to non-availability of coal supplies, necessitated the emergency relief. Even the remaining units were running at half their capacity due to scarcity of coal.
“As against the installed capacity of 5,000 MW, we are getting only 2,000 MW of thermal production. Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam reservoirs continue to be dry while a unit each at Vijjeswaram and VTPS have been closed down too,” a CPDCL official said.
