VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has designated the 50-year-old St. Joseph’s College for Women here as its partner institution to offer four enhanced access programmes and 12 value-added courses. This is part of Central Government’s strategy to increase enrolment in higher education through a scheme of convergence between the conventional and open and distance learning systems. Students of not only St. Joseph’s College for Women but also of other colleges could join the courses, said Coordinator Suguna Kannan here on Wednesday. The following courses are being offered: Enhanced access programmes: Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP), M.Sc. (dietetics and food service management), M.A. (English) and M.A. (Hindi). Value-added courses: PG diplomas in Hospital and Health Management (PGDHHM) and translation (PGDT); diploma programmes in early childhood care and education (DECE), nutrition and health education (DNHE), value-added products from fruits and vegetables (DVAPFV) and nursing administration (DNA); certificate programmes in consumer protections (CCP), nutrition and child care (CNCC), food and nutrition (CFN), teaching of English (CTE) and functional English basic level (CFE). The college faculty and lecturers from out side would conduct the classes. Degree, Intermediate and SSC are the qualifications for the PG, diploma and certificate courses respectively. Interested could contact the college on or before September 3 for admission.
